November 7, 1997 - Hong Kong - Taikoo Motors, the sole importer of Volvo automobiles in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, has introduced the latest addition to its award-winning S70 series - the S70 2.0T. At the heart of the S70 2.0T is an aluminium 1,984 c.c. 5-cylinder DOHC 20-valve engine equipped with a low-pressure turbo and intercooler, producing 180 bhp at 5,700 rpm. The engine's remarkably flat torque curve produces its maximum torque of 220 Nm from as low as 2,100 rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 4-speed computer-controlled automatic transmission. Suspension duties are handled by independent MacPherson spring struts with a lower link and an anti-roll bar in the front, and a semi-independent delta-link with coil springs and an anti-roll bar in the rear. The S70 2.0T's 15" aluminium alloy wheels are wrapped in high performance tyres, and braking is handled by 4-sensor electronic ABS disc brakes at the front and rear. Inside the cabin, the S70 2.0T features premium leather seats and upholstery, a 6-speaker premium sound system, electronic climate control air conditioning and an electrically adjustable driver's seat. Safety features include dual driver and passenger-side SRS airbags, Volvo's SIPS side impact protection system, dual SIPS airbags and an extra high-level LED stop lamp. According to Mr K W Lam, Managing Director of Taikoo Motors, "We are very pleased to introduce this latest addition to the S70 series in the Hong Kong market, Priced at HK$369,750, the 2.0T is a new model that will further widen the range of Volvo's offerings in the region." "The S70 2.0T's a low-pressure turbocharging gives it a wide power band across a broad rpm range - producing remarkable strong power and torque. All of this translates into better take-off characteristics and increased driver confidence - which makes the S70 2.0T especially suited for the city driving conditions of Hong Kong," concluded Mr Lam. Taikoo Motors, a member of the Swire Group, is the distributor of Volvo in Hong Kong. It has been the exclusive importer of Volvo cars in Taiwan since 1978 and Eastern & Northern China since 1992.
